Looking for a job? Or do you just want to make sure you’re ready when the dream opportunity comes along? Social medial strategist Robert O’Reilly gave us five tips on how to get the most out LinkedIn.
- Network: Social media is supposed to be social! Connect with old and new colleagues, connections and friends! The bigger your network, the likelier your dream opportunity will find its way into your feed. You’ll notice that you can pull in your email contacts now – it’s a great way to find people you might not have connected with in years, but who might be able to help your career down the track.
- Polish Your Profile: Your LinkedIn profile should be as professional and polished as your CV. Take the time to fill out your profile completely, keep it updated, and have someone look it over for typos.
- Less is More: If you don’t have the time to write elloquent copy for your profile, keep it concise. A professional but minimal presence is better than a poorly considered manifesto.
- Engagement Party: Again, social media is supposed to be social! Engage with posts from friends, colleagues or strangers. It will remind them of your professional presence, show you know what you’re talking about and inject you into the newsfeeds of their connections.
- Post Script: Posting content regularly is an important way to develop your professional digital presence. Projects you’re working on, training you’re going through, work you’ve published or even work social events you’re attending; it can all be used to further your professional reputation. Sharing content from brighter minds is also a great way to build your professional brand; just try to ensure it’s curated to your industry/role (it has to be relevant) and offer some sort of commentary on why it’s interesting. Too many people share generic content without making it their own.
